Ingredient and label

Ingredient: beef tripe, and the label stops there. It starts as beef tripe from a farm in the United States. It is green tripe, which means unbleached, and it goes into the freeze dryer raw. Taking the water out is what makes the bag light and lets it keep on a shelf. It is still beef, so leave it if beef is not for your dog.

The package label shows:

  • Crude protein, 49% minimum
  • Crude fat, 31% minimum
  • Crude fiber, 13% maximum
  • Moisture, 10% maximum
  • Metabolizable energy, 4,211 kcal ME per kilogram, about 119.4 kcal per ounce

Computed from the label figure, that is about 179 kcal in the 1.5 ounce bag, 239 in the 2 ounce bag and 478 in the 4 ounce bag, if each bag holds its stated weight.

The fit is adult dogs, medium and large. Use it for rewards or over a meal, not as the whole diet, and count the pieces toward the small share of the day that treats get.

How to use a bag

  1. Reward

Snap a piece into small bits and hand them over one at a time.

  2. Topper

Crumble a piece over kibble or a raw meal.

  3. Seal it

Press the seal shut after every reach in and keep the bag in a dry cupboard away from heat. It needs no fridge.

The smell scorecard

We score our own treats and print the result. Smell: strong, on a medium sized piece. Crunch: 3 out of 5. Training value: 4 out of 5, which the listing calls a high value treat. Freeze-drying takes some of the reach out of the smell, and what is left is still plainly tripe to anyone in the room. Pressed shut, the bag rides in a car door pocket. Left open, everyone in the car knows.

Which bag to start with

If this is your dog's first tripe, pick the 1.5 ounce bag and treat it as a trial for both of you. The 2 ounce bag is the middle step. Go to the 4 ounce bag once your dog has made its feelings clear.

Raw handling: wash with soap and water after you touch the treats, and wash the bowls and counters they land on, as the FDA advises for raw pet food (FDA, Get the Facts! Raw Pet Food Diets can be Dangerous to You and Your Pet, opened 2026-10-16). Keep fresh water down and stay nearby while your dog eats. If you are not sure it suits your dog, ask your veterinarian. Product questions

What is beef tripe?

The stomach of a cow, which is sold either bleached white for the kitchen or raw and unbleached. Ours is the raw, unbleached kind, freeze-dried, and beef tripe is the only line on the ingredient list.

Why is the smell so strong?

Tripe smells strong before anything is done to it, and freeze-drying removes water, not character. Expect a bag that smells like tripe when it is open and much less once the seal is pressed shut. Our scorecard says strong, and we would rather you know before the first bag arrives.

Do I need to refrigerate the bag?

No. Once freeze-dried, the tripe keeps at room temperature, so a dry cupboard away from heat is the right spot. Press the seal shut between uses, both for the pieces and for the air in the room.

Is this tripe cooked?

No. It is raw beef tripe that has been freeze-dried, so it is dry but not cooked. Handle it like any raw product: wash your hands afterward and clean the surfaces it touched, as the FDA advises for raw pet food.

Is it green tripe?

Yes. Green tripe means tripe left raw and unbleached rather than boiled and bleached white, and that is what goes into the freeze dryer here, with beef tripe as the one ingredient. The green tripe for dogs page explains the term and how to read a label for it.

How much should my dog get?

Small amounts, as rewards or crumbled over a meal. The label puts it at about 119.4 kcal per ounce with crude fat at 31% minimum, so a few small pieces are plenty against the day's treat share. A calorie target for your dog turns that share into a number.

Is it a complete food?

No. It is a treat or a meal topper, and the listing says so. Feed a complete and balanced food for the meal itself and keep tripe to the small share of the day that treats get.
